Post-Chemo Hair Growing Out and a Clean Bill of Health

Life is pretty damn good these days. The Henery Press edition of Artifact comes out next week, I finished a rough outline of the third Jaya Jones book a few days ago, and I got a clean bill of health at my annual post-cancer doctor appointments.

Still... I couldn't help grumbling about how long it takes hair to grow back! I've been taking weekly photos of my hair as it grows out, and tracking my progress has made it feel sooooo sloooooow.

But then I took a step back. Looking at photos from every other month during the past 10 months, it's easy to spot the change from a super-short pixie cut to whatever you call a big curly swirl of hair that the wind is constantly blowing into my eyes. Cancer can't stop either me or my hair.

    1. Thanks, Kathy -- I tried weekly photos at first, but that was just too close together to get a sense of how it was growing out!

  3. Hi Gigi! Stumbled upon your blog when I searched "post-chemo curly hair" haha! Like you I had fairly straight hair before chemo, and now it's growing out curly. I'm cool with curly, but I don't know what to do with it! My last treatment was in early March, and my hair started growing out around end of May. I had my first haircut in mid-October, when it got a little out of control (my son told me "to bring it back to normal size"!). Anyway I can see it's now growing big again. I hardly ever brush my hair; I wash everyday and let it airdry. I thought about keeping it short, but then it's going to be expensive, so maybe I should grow it out, but I don't like the in-between mess... maybe I can wear a beanie or something... I don't know. Any suggestions? How did yours grow out for you?

    1. I've been having a lot of fun with trying out cute hats! It's definitely the way to go for the awkward stages of hair growing out. I thought about keeping mine short, too, but I don't know if I feel like MYSELF with short hair, so that's why I'm taking photos every week or so -- so I can remember what I look like with my hair at each length, to see what I like best. Best wishes!
